After four long weeks, the time has finally come: a new LTE router establishes the connection from the garden shack to home. This makes it possible for the first time to start and control the NUC remotely from home.
The whole thing is made possible by a Teltonika router that can execute commands via SMS. The magic packets wake the NUC from both deep sleep and hibernation. The connection to the desktop is then established manually via a remote control provider. For transmission to the endpoint at home, the speed of the Internet access was increased from a slow 2 MBit to a smooth 16 MBit connection.
I wish all hobby friends good DX and a successful start into 2024!

Timers are set up in the shack to control the flow of electricity. Both clocks control the on and off times of the K9AY controller and the S3. They are coordinated with the automatic switch-on times of the NUC and with the scheduler of the SDR console.
The S3 draws 12-15 watts from the batteries when switched on, 10-15 watts less than the NUC consumes. At the same time, the S3 "heats up" internally for frequency stabilisation and because of the connected GPS module like a mini oven. In permanently connected mode, it would consume almost as much energy as a second NUC. The second timer therefore relieves the batteries and creates more leeway in the winter months when the sun is weak.
Other units are connected to one of the timers via the distributor in the middle.

This blog is intended to be an overview of the myriad ways you can integrate, install and operate modern SDR hardware and software along with antennas and solar power in a garden shed.
From radio frequency interference (RFI) and how to eliminate it, to testing and using SDR accessories, to seemingly unsolvable software and hardware problems, to operating a 12 V system in an area with no power, to medium wave and short wave receptions and reception confirmations - there's plenty of room for everything here.
Maybe it's a good source for ideas that can be replicated, and maybe an encouragement for other QRM-afflicted DXers to just start such a garden project.
This blog is the continuation of *dxercorner.tikishop.de*. The old pages were taken away by a virus. A wayback machine made it possible to access some old copies which will be re-integrated bit by bit with dates before 2022. The new blog address is dxerscorner.tikishop.de/blog.
