Mostly quiet and weak signals have come across the Atlantic over the last few weeks, but there have also been a few new stations from South America. The spread changed seasonally towards the south of the globe. Instead of East Coast US there were some good openings for Peruvian stations, including some I've never heard of before. However, there was no longer skip. Most of the time, the usable part of the spread was limited to 10-20 minutes, around sunrise.

(Note: Greyline and midday altitude not relevant.)

The far east is still conspicuous in its absence, while the ionosphere favors the broader near east through to mid-Africa. Already at 1540 UT AIR North could be heard from Varanasi, followed immediately by Radio Sultanate of Oman on the same frequency. Radio Free Africa was also able to keep up with the early start at 1800 UT. Later in the evening, the station could be recorded almost continuously in quiet quality.

Later in the evening, many Spanish channels could be received somewhat more subdued and with an echo effect. This could have been beneficial if the condx had only been slightly better.

Here are the logs:

A review of the wave propagation can be read in the logbook. How does it come about?

The value ✴/ corresponds to the impression of the listening experience that arises when I listen to and evaluate the recording for the first time. The purpose of the exercise is to better understand medium wave propagation and later to have a comprehensible assessment of the recording stored in the archive.

Should your personal assessment deviate from this: no problem. Already 300 km away from my location it could have looked completely different.

CNR 5 Taihai zhi Sheng, Quanzhou on 10/26/2022.

Audible for the first time this season was CNR 5 Taihai zhi Sheng, Quanzhou on 10/26/2022. With 1000 kW no problem, one would think, but the inonosphere often has a different opinion. Two transmitters from Thailand on 891 and 1575 kHz can be heard regularly, albeit weakly. While the Voice of America from Ban Phachi/Rasom (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya) also comes with 1000 kW on 1575, the Radio Thailand transmitter from Saraburi is content with a modest 400 kW on 891 kHz. Also worth mentioning is the powerful signal from Radio Afghanistan from Kabul on 1107 kHz with 400 kW.

Here are the logs:
