The first logs of the new year 2023 give a small glimmer of hope. According to my last logbook entry from November 10, 2022, the propagation conditions on medium wave have downright crashed. The few faint signals from Asia, Africa, and the Americas weren't worth the trouble of listening, so they were heard anyway.

Ivan_Abilev from Troitsk, Chelyabinsk region. Russia, writes in the skywaves DX forum: "We discussed it last year with our colleagues and we agreed that all the routes
above the 55th parallel are strongly dependent on the solar activity, and this year the sun is hyper active. On the 62nd parallel all December Aurora happens and everything above the 55th-57th parallel is shut down. This is the reason why I cannot get the UK and Hokkaido, which goes through the 58th parallel. But the southernmost islands around Fukuoka or Osaka are catching constantly, although Hokkaido is closer by 200-400km and has more power. So try to focus on more southern latitudes, for example on India or Thailand, and catch South America instead of North America. On these routes high solar activity gives very good coverage and the higher it is the better reception".

Ivan's post was one of many replies to the "Conditions" thread on this forum. Its location near the Kazakh border may be a bit remote, but Christoph Ratzer from Salzburg, Austria also writes in this forum: "I cannot remember hearing such weak Asia signals over many days in the last 10 years that I have been active on mediumwave" . Many DXers from the UK who are represented in this forum feel the same way.
