ELAD Tmate TM-2

First remove the dust from Italy on the device. After all, it was just as dry there as it was here in the summer of 2022. The beautifully designed controller is well packaged and comes with a self-printed operating manual.

The most important part of the operator, the rotary knob, reacts a bit wobbly to the first touch, but it is still a long way from the joystick. Memory notes: the button is worse than the R-4C or 9R59DS, but they also didn't have a push button underneath to increase the increment.

With the Tmate TM-2 you operate felt like with an analogue receiver. You can set the increment to e.g. 100 Hz, or to 1 Hz, depending on what the connected software allows. The filter control appears handy and convenient, it is intuitive and easy to use. Despite the shaky ambience, the rotary knob is very easy to handle and can be set more precisely after a little practice. You can use it to turn the band really nicely and you can see what's going on between the frequencies when the step size is set to 1 kHz, for example.

Now you just have to be able to turn the time forward! SDR-Console and ELAD FDM-SW2 each offer different programming options for the Tmate TM-2. The latter is still missing. Another great simplification in the operation of an SDR is the latching volume control. And there I am again with the R-4C or 9R59DS with its stepless analogue controls. Also not to be scoffed at: the F1 button. There is no quicker way to turn off the sound.

The Tmate TM-2 is particularly useful when you are stuck on a DX frequency and can make manual settings such as mode and BW as well as fine tuning in 1 Hz steps. It's faster than using the mouse and is so intuitive that you won't be able to do without it any longer.

My conclusion: an absolutely awesome controller for comfortably operating the computer peripherals.

And listening with the SDR is a bit like back in the analogue age. A must for any demanding DXer and an alternative to mouse-only operation.
