During the last days I reconnected my notebook - not the tablet - to the solar charger and did some running tests with the 15 W solar panel. This weekend the new 100 W solar panel will be added to the 100 Ah solar battery. It should give sufficient current to run the notebook during night time. I am looking foreward to do this. Due to power reasons I will use the 5 V tablet only for live listening. It remains connected to the 7 Ah battery which is powered by the 15 W panel, or the 20 Ah battery which fits in a pocket and can be charged at my home QTH.
Further tests with the Rocketec voltage converter shows that this device produces more HF noise than first thought. There could be more silence on some frequencies. A light wobbling sound appears sometimes. I think it will be hard to find a suitable solution, so I will be patient with this device. It converts 12 V to 19.4 V and is intended to charge the notebook.
Anyway, MW and tropical bands remain great in my place and I was able to get some nice catches. Best of was R Bougainville from PNG on 8/8/2016 at 1944 UT with a S7 signal on my 45 m horizontal loop. Sounded great after a long time of not hearing any PNGs. Some more logs from this night:
1560 0259 USA WFME Family Radio, New York/Queens (NY)
1270 0344 B ZYH753 Rádio Brasil Central, Goiânia/Fazenda Bananal (GO)
1470 0347 PRU OAU4B Radio Capital, Lima/Pantanos de Villa (lim)
1240 0342 PRU OAU4V Radio Cumbre, Huancayo_Chilca
With this antenna it makes fun to just listen on sometimes totally undisturbed frequencies to stations from the Americas.
If MW conditions improve I am shure I will get some interesting logs. So stay tuned -and see you on the blog.
